Begin your journey early in the morning as you depart from Chandigarh, driving through the scenic routes of Himachal Pradesh. Cross Solan and Shimla before reaching Narkanda, a charming hill town surrounded by apple orchards and pine forests. Upon arrival, check into your hotel and freshen up. In the evening, you can visit Hatu Peak for panoramic views of snow-covered mountains or take a stroll through the local market. Overnight stay in Narkanda.
After breakfast, check out and set off towards Kalpa, a beautiful village in Kinnaur district known for its views of the Kinnaur Kailash range. The drive offers dramatic landscapes and the chance to witness the merging of rivers and terraced fields. En route, stop at Reckong Peo to get your inner line permits if required. Arrive in Kalpa by evening and check into your hotel. Spend some time exploring Roghi Village or enjoying the sunset views. Overnight stay in Kalpa.
Have an early breakfast and begin your drive towards Tabo. The road passes through Puh, Khab Bridge (where the Spiti and Sutlej Rivers meet), and gradually ascends into the barren, high-altitude desert of Spiti Valley. Arrive in Tabo by afternoon. Visit the ancient Tabo Monastery, often referred to as the “Ajanta of the Himalayas” for its beautiful murals and ancient scriptures. Explore the village and take in the quiet, spiritual atmosphere. Overnight stay in Tabo.
After breakfast, check out and proceed towards Kaza, the main town in Spiti Valley. Along the way, stop at Dhankar Monastery, dramatically perched on a cliff overlooking the confluence of the Spiti and Pin Rivers. You can also visit Dhankar Lake if time permits. Continue driving to Kaza and check into your hotel. Spend the evening exploring the local market and nearby cafes. Overnight stay in Kaza.
After an early breakfast, embark on an excursion to the high-altitude villages around Kaza. Start with a visit to Key Monastery, the largest monastery in Spiti, known for its stunning hilltop location and collection of ancient Buddhist relics. Next, proceed to Kibber, one of the highest inhabited villages in the world. Later, visit Hikkim, where you can send a postcard from the world’s highest post office, and Langza, famous for its giant Buddha statue and fossil-rich hills. Return to Kaza by evening. Overnight stay in Kaza.
After an early breakfast, check out and start your return drive to Chandigarh. Retrace your route back through Kinnaur and Narkanda, enjoying the last glimpses of the rugged mountain landscapes. Arrive in Chandigarh by late evening, carrying unforgettable memories of Spiti’s untouched beauty and cultural richness.
